New educational leaders around the Richmond Highway Corridor

Brynmor Early Education & Preschool, a new childcare center opening in Lorton this fall, announced July 21 the hiring of Rob Blakely as its first employee and executive director. 

Blakely comes to Brynmor from the YMCA of Metropolitan Washington in Loudoun County, Virginia where he served for the past seven years in various roles, including senior program director and associate executive director. He holds a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Fredonia along with several certifications in the health, safety and development of young children.

Fairfax County Public Schools’ (FCPS) Region 3 Office announced the selection of new administrators at Fort Belvoir Elementary School. Effective July 5, LaZedrick Jemison became the principal of Fort Belvoir Primary School, while Jennifer Laxton assumed the principal role at Fort Belvoir Upper School.

Jemison previously served as the assistant principal at Lowry Elementary School in the Denver Public Schools system. He holds a Bachelor of Science in early childhood education and elementary education from Alabama A&M University; a Master of Education in education administration and policy from Howard University; and a Doctor of Education in curriculum and instructional leadership from Argosy University.

Laxton comes to the Upper School from John Braly Elementary School in the Santa Clara Unified School District, California, where she served as principal. She holds a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from the State University of New York College and a Master of Arts in early childhood education from Valdosta University.

FCPS Region 3 also announced the appointment Aug. 14 of Lawrence Caines as principal of Fort Hunt Elementary School. 

Caines previously served as the assistant principal at Crestwood Elementary School and prior to that held similar positions at Hybla Valley Elementary School and Stratford Landing Elementary School. He earned a Bachelor of Music in music education from Marywood University and a Master of Education in administration and supervision from the University of Virginia.
