Federal Realty signs new anchor tenant at Mount Vernon Plaza

Burlington, a discount retailer of brand-name fashion merchandise, plans to open a store at Mount Vernon Plaza next year, Federal Realty has confirmed to Mount Vernon On the MoVe.

Burlington has been on an expansion path with dozens of stores slated to open in various states in October and November. According to Burlington Stores' second quarter 2023 earnings report, the company recently acquired the leases for 62 former Bed Bath & Beyond store locations. The former Bed Bath & Beyond space at Mount Vernon Plaza in Hybla Valley is precisely where Burlington plans to open its doors - likely in fall 2024 according to Federal Realty, which signed the lease with its new tenant in June 2023.

Deirdre Johnson, senior vice president of asset management at Federal Realty, was pleased to lease the 25,156 square feet of space to Burlington.

“The upcoming arrival of Burlington complements our attractive lineup of value fashion retailers, including Old Navy, TJ Maxx and DSW, as well our diverse collection of restaurant and personal services at Mount Vernon Plaza,” said Johnson. “Burlington’s commitment to providing high-quality products at consumer-friendly prices across an array of merchandising categories will appeal to our shoppers and further enrich Mount Vernon as a one-stop shopping destination.”

Burlington's future Mount Vernon Plaza location is at 7690B Richmond Highway between PetSmart and Michael's. A new Burlington store also will be opening at Springfield Town Center Nov. 3.
