Small retail shops across from Lidl are preparing to open in coming months.

Just a few months after the July 26 opening of Lidl supermarket at Liberty Market in Lorton, several other businesses are preparing to open their doors.

One of the highly anticipated openings is the new Brynmor Early Education & Preschool, which will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony and tours Saturday, Oct. 14 at 10 a.m. before opening to children ages six weeks to five years on Monday, Oct. 16.

Brynmor Early Education & Preschool occupies two buildings at the historic Liberty Market redevelopment.

Once the privately owned childcare facility receives its license — which founder Rhian Evans Allvin said will be any day now — Brynmor will enroll in the Virginia Child Care Subsidy Program and the Child Care Aware of America military assistance program. Families with total household incomes between $69,000 and $120,000 also can inquire about scholarships that a private partner is providing.

“We want high quality early childhood education to be within reach for all children and families,” said Evans Allvin.

At a recent tour of the center hosted by the South Fairfax Chamber of Commerce (SFCC), Brynmor leaders showed guests the creative indoor/outdoor learning and play spaces, infant rooms and kitchen that span two adjacent buildings at the refurbished former Lorton Reformatory site.

Just a short walk from Brynmor and directly across from Lidl is the “Retail A” small shop building, which is fully leased by businesses preparing to open in coming weeks and months. Petite Smiles, a boutique pediatric dentistry, is planning a small ribbon-cutting ceremony with SFCC members Oct. 13 before holding a larger public grand opening at a later date, said SFCC Executive Director Carla Olivo.

Other Retail A tenants tentatively slated to open this year, according to information provided by the South County Federation, are Ledo’s Pizza, Always Polish’d nail salon, Taco Rock, Yafa Grille and Kokee Tea. The newest signed tenant, Hangry Joe’s Hot Chicken, is anticipated to open in early 2024.

Diagonal from both the small retail shops and Lidl is a 9,300 square-foot building that’s been marketed by commercial realtor NVRetail as a brewery/restaurant space. NVRetail recently signed a letter of intent with a yet to be announced tenant to occupy the building.

Beside and slightly behind the future brewery/restaurant, an F45 Training studio is constructing its new space in a building that still has 4,000 square feet of retail space available.
