Good Shepherd Housing holds ribbon cutting at new Lorton headquarters
Good Shepherd Housing (GSH), a nonprofit focused on reducing homelessness, held a ribbon cutting and reception at its new Lorton-based headquarters Dec. 5.
Noting that it was the nonprofit's first move in over 20 years, GSH interim executive director Candice Bennett said the team is loving its new space at the Backlick Center South Business Park, just off the Fairfax County Parkway. GSH's office on the second floor has a couple hundred more square feet than its former headquarters along Richmond Highway, said Bennett, adding that they had looked "up and down the highway" for space but found the Lorton building to be the most cost-competitive option.
Besides enabling better in-office teaming of case managers and Career Power program staff, GSH's new headquarters is closer to its Lorton-based affordable housing, which team members hope to expand in the near future. Bennett said they soon will find out whether they received Community Development Block Grant funding from Fairfax County to purchase one additional housing unit in Lorton.
Looking ahead to 2024, GSH will be celebrating its 50th anniversary — the organization was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit on Jan. 31, 1974. In coming weeks and months, the nonprofit expects to announce a new permanent executive director, said Bennett.
GSH is located at 8253 Backlick Road, Suite L in Lorton.
