This count circle covers large areas of public lands, some of which are specially opened for the count – National Wildlife Refuges, State Parks, County Parks, watershed protective zones, historical estates, etc.. Examples are Huntley Meadows, Ft Hunt, Mt Vernon, Ft Belvoir Accotink Wildlife area, Pohick Regional Park, Mason Neck NWR, Mason Neck SP, Meadowood, Occ. Bay NWR, Julie Metz, Leesylvania SP, Burke Lake, Lake Accotink, Colonial Farms Md, Pr Georges County natural areas, and various stream valley corridors. Most teams consist of 3 people and are in the field from a few hours to all day, owling teams are encouraged! Strong base of volunteers that are familiar with the terrain complement the skill set of new volunteers.
