The Arden to open near Huntington Metro in mid-December
The Arden, a 126-unit affordable housing complex near Huntington Metro station, is expected to be ready for tenant move-in beginning Dec. 15.
Owned and operated by Wesley Housing, the seven-story property features studios and one-, two- or three-bedroom apartments, laundry rooms on each floor, a fitness center, community room, parking garage and courtyard with plantings. Free in-unit and common area Wi-Fi are an added perk for residents. Wesley Property Management will manage the community, and Wesley Housing's on-site resident services team will provide year-round programs and services for individual and family households.
Housing applicants are required to meet certain income restrictions and qualification criteria, including earning less than 80% of the Area Median Income.
According to a Wesley Housing spokesperson, The Arden was 55% pre-leased as of mid-November. Wesley currently is advertising a special in which prospective tenants applying by Nov. 30 can live rent-free in December and January 2023.
Prior to The Arden’s construction, the development site on Huntington Avenue encompassed a 12-unit apartment building and two duplexes. Wesley Housing bought the properties from a developer, secured financing from 13 different sources and in July 2020 broke ground on the multi-family housing project.
The Arden is the single largest building that Wesley has ever developed, according to Greg Lloyd, Wesley Housing’s construction manager. Lloyd joined Wesley Project Manager David Johnson in conducting an Oct. 14 hard-hat tour of the facility organized by the Southeast Fairfax Development Corporation (SFDC).
Besides providing housing for low to moderate income families, The Arden will serve as Wesley’s new main office. The building includes 7,500 square feet of office space where Wesley staff will move at the start of the new year from their current location on Cherokee Avenue in Alexandria.
The Arden is located at 2317 Huntington Avenue.
