A baby boy delivered at 12:03 a.m. on New Year's Day at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, Maryland was reportedly the Washington, D.C. region’s first baby of 2023, but a newborn girl at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital gave him a run for his money.
Jerrise Jenesis Majesty Smith was born at 12:26 a.m. on Jan. 1 to Air Force Tech. Sgt. Kerry Smith and his wife Jerrise, according to social media postings from the Belvoir Hospital. The baby weighed in at 5 pounds, 10 ounces, and was 20 inches long. As the “First Baby of 2023” delivered at the garrison’s medical facility, little Miss Smith earned her proud parents a gift basket.
Fort Belvoir Community Hospital delivered 1,006 babies in 2022, according to hospital staff. The first-ever baby born there arrived on the facility's opening day, Aug. 31, 2011, jusr four days after the garrison’s DeWitt Army Community Hospital delivered its final baby.

I am strongly opposed to any expansion of parking at the Mustang Loop parking lot. I support repaving with a permeable material. In my opinion, moving the pollinator garden is a waste of county resources. It adds a valued bit of nature to an otherwise sterile parking area and pavilion.
