The post office at Mount Vernon Plaza will remain in business at its current location, a spokesperson for the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) confirmed March 15 to On the MoVe.
In late December 2022, the Washington Business Journal had reported that Mount Vernon Plaza property manager Federal Realty filed suit against the USPS for unpaid rent and that the post office had until Feb. 28 to vacate the space. In response to an inquiry about the matter, a Federal Realty spokesperson told On the MoVe Feb. 8 that Federal didn't have information to share about the post office due to corporate policy and "out of respect and partnership" for its merchants.
Despite having begun looking for and evaluating potential new sites in the area last August, the post office's Alexandria Community Branch never stopped serving customers at its Mount Vernon Plaza location.
The Alexandria Community Branch is located at 7676 Richmond Highway.
Yea! Ericka, thanks for the great news and keeping the community informed of what's happening locally.
Sunny, with a high of 61 and low of 35 degrees. Sunny during the morning, clear overnight.
Yea! Ericka, thanks for the great news and keeping the community informed of what's happening locally.
Ericka, thanks for sharing. I haven't seen any notice or coverage about this project by the Bureau of Land Management except for your "On the MoVe" posts. Thanks for helping to keep the community informed. Recommend that readers review and submit comments. From my listening to the meeting, I get the sense that
I am strongly opposed to any expansion of parking at the Mustang Loop parking lot. I support repaving with a permeable material. In my opinion, moving the pollinator garden is a waste of county resources. It adds a valued bit of nature to an otherwise sterile parking area and pavilion.
Erika, thanks for the update.
You're welcome!
