Food Flame, a restaurant specializing in Indian and Pakistani cuisine, opened March 3 at Engleside Plaza shopping center in Alexandria.
Located in a space formerly occupied by Wing Zone, Food Flame is owned and operated by Zafar Khan and family. Khan, who serves as chef, previously spent 20 years working at Aatish on the Hill in Washington, D.C.
One of Khan’s sons serves as business manager of Food Flame, and the other, at 10 years of age, reportedly inspired Khan to open a halal restaurant and has shown a knack for marketing his dad’s business. Khan's wife helps out in the kitchen as well.
Food Flame offers a variety of chicken, lamb, wok and vegetable entrees, tandoori charcoal and breads, flame biryani and other dishes at various levels of spiciness.
The restaurant is located at 8634 Richmond Highway and is open Sunday through Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays, 11:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. The restaurant offers in-person dining, takeout and delivery.
