George Washington Rec Center to temporarily close for improvements

The George Washington Rec Center has been welcoming patrons of the Mount Vernon Rec Center, which is closed for renovation until early 2025.

With renovation work well underway at the Mount Vernon Rec Center on Belle View Boulevard, another Fairfax County recreational facility near the Richmond Highway corridor will soon be getting some upgrades.

The George Washington Rec Center, located across from the Mount Vernon High School at 8426 Old Mount Vernon Road, plans to close from July 24 to August 18, according to the Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA).

Among the improvements slated for the facility are new pool filters; new and more secure doors at the front entrance; retiled showers; an updated party room; and a deep cleaning of the pool deck.

During the nearly four weeks that George Washington Rec’s indoor pool is out of commission, patrons can venture to neighboring Franconia District for the next closest county facility — the Franconia Rec Center at 6601 Telegraph Road. Those with an FCPA Rec Center membership can also use it at other county locations.

The George Washington Rec Center will reopen Saturday, August 19, according to FCPA.
