The long-awaited Lidl supermarket in Lorton will officially open July 26 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and grand opening celebration, Mount Vernon District Supervisor Dan Storck informed members of the South County Federation at their July 11 general membership meeting.
As the anchor tenant for the new Liberty Market commercial development, which combines the reuse of historic property from the old Lorton Reformatory with modern "Class A" construction, the 30,000 square-foot Lidl will soon be joined by several neighboring retail businesses and a childcare center that are slated to open this fall or winter.
According to a July 12 news release from Lidl US, local leaders will welcome the new supermarket to the community at a 7:40 a.m. ribbon cutting on July 26, followed by a celebration that includes giveaways, samples and special deals. The first 100 customers in line before the store opens at 8 a.m. will receive a gift card ranging in value from $5 to $100.
Additionally, in partnership with the Lorton Community Action Center (LCAC), Lidl will donate $1 throughout its grand opening weekend to the LCAC food pantry for every new myLidl member who signs up and sets the Liberty Market location as their home store.
A special family-friendly open house event for local community members will be held the evening prior to the grand opening, July 25 from 5 to 7 p.m., and will feature games, face painting, store tours and product samples.
Besides Lidl, other retail businesses slated to open at Liberty Market include Taco Rock, Petite Smiles, Yafa Grille, Kokee Tea, Always Polish’d and Ledo Pizza. According to the South County Federation, a letter of intent was signed for the seventh and final space in the “Retail A” building across from Lidl. Construction is also well underway at Brynmor Early Education & Preschool, which plans to open the first week of October. Capital MMA and Adamson Editions & Gallery are already open for business at the site.
NV Retail, in partnership with developer Elm Street Development, is marketing office/flex space, a brewery/restaurant and additional retail slots at Liberty Market. Liberty Market is the commercial component of an 80-acre project called Liberty, which has transformed the historic Lorton Reformatory/Laurel Hill area into a modern residential and business community.
The new Lidl is located at 9001 White Spruce Way in Lorton. Store hours will be 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
