The Mount Vernon District Police Station has begun making updates available to community members through the Fairfax Alerts system.
According to an email from PFC Damaris Ocasio, crime prevention officer at the Mount Vernon District Station, community members can sign up to receive emails or text messages with important public safety information in the district. The notification system was first mentioned by Mount Vernon Police District Commander Capt. Marc Mitchell during an interview in August 2023.
To sign up for the alerts, register for a Fairfax Alerts account at FairfaxCounty.gov/alerts, log in and under "My Subscriptions," click the arrow next to "Fairfax County Police Department." That will open a drop-down menu where you can click the arrow next to "Fairfax County Police Station Updates" and then check the box for "Mt Vernon District." Lastly, click "Save."
Existing Fairfax Alerts subscribers can log in to update the "My Subscriptions" section.
Mitchell noted this past summer that the alert program would be piloted by Mount Vernon Police District and, if successful, potentially be expanded throughout the entire department.
Note: Thanks to the Mount Vernon Community Advisory Committee's Executive Committee for sharing the information.
