Celebrate Veterans Day around the Richmond Highway Corridor
Veterans Day falls on Saturday, Nov. 11 this year, and in commemoration of the observance, several organizations and places around the Richmond Highway Corridor are holding events over the next few weeks. Following are several of the events we’re tracking:
Fort Belvoir will hold its annual Veterans Day observance, Thursday, Nov. 9 at 10:30 a.m. at the Cold War Memorial on Long Parade Field. The garrison will honor all who have served in the military and pay tribute to the patriots and their families who have sacrificed their lives in defense of freedom. The guest speaker will be Lt. Col. (Ret.) Michael Bigelow, historian with the U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held at Wells Field House, 2104-6028 Goethals Road, building 1810. Military attendees should appear in duty uniform while non-military should wear business attire. Information on installation access, including for visitors, can be found on Fort Belvoir’s website.
National Museum of the U.S. Army
The National Museum of the U.S. Army will hold special visitor activities and commemorations from Nov. 10-12. Besides family-oriented activities, the museum will offer resources for veterans, showcase military stories and artifacts from museum volunteers, show the PBS documentary “American Veteran,” and have a special outdoor flag display along the Path of Remembrance and Warriors’ Plaza. More information about the events, dates and times can be found on the museum’s website.
