With just days left until Valentine’s Day and warmer, sunnier temperatures on the way this upcoming week, it’s good to know that two nature-based attractions along the Richmond Highway corridor are part of Fun in Fairfax VA’s updated list of “21 Romantic Places in Virginia and DC, No Reservation Required.”
Huntley Meadows Park, described as a “hidden gem,” made the list for its boardwalk leading to an observation tower with picturesque views over the marsh. Further south along the corridor, Mason Neck State Park
in Lorton was cited for its beautiful trails and views, particularly from a platform overlooking the marsh along the quarter-mile Marsh View Trail.
Both trails mentioned above are accessible and offer ample opportunities to view wildlife. Huntley Meadows Park is located at 3701 Lockheed Boulevard in Alexandria, while Mason Neck State Park is at 7301 High Point Road in Lorton.
Sunny, with a high of 61 and low of 35 degrees. Sunny during the morning, clear overnight.
Yea! Ericka, thanks for the great news and keeping the community informed of what's happening locally.
Ericka, thanks for sharing. I haven't seen any notice or coverage about this project by the Bureau of Land Management except for your "On the MoVe" posts. Thanks for helping to keep the community informed. Recommend that readers review and submit comments. From my listening to the meeting, I get the sense that
I am strongly opposed to any expansion of parking at the Mustang Loop parking lot. I support repaving with a permeable material. In my opinion, moving the pollinator garden is a waste of county resources. It adds a valued bit of nature to an otherwise sterile parking area and pavilion.
Erika, thanks for the update.
You're welcome!
