Motorists traveling near Fort Belvoir or accessing the garrison the week of March 28 may want to be aware of a couple of gate and road-related developments.
Expanded gate access hours: Effective Monday, March 28, Walker Gate, located along Mount Vernon Memorial Highway, will be open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. The gate will remain closed on weekends and federal holidays.
Road replacement project: Later in the week, the installation is kicking off a three-week-long road replacement project. Starting Wednesday, March 30, Fort Belvoir’s Directorate of Public Works is going to replace 12th Street — the main thoroughfare featuring retail shops and several installation facilities, between Gunston Road and Belvoir Road. The project will take place in two phases, with phase one construction beginning at the intersection of Belvoir Road and 12th Street through the intersection of Middleton Road and 12th Street. Phase two will start at Middleton Road and 12th Street and conclude at Gunston Road and 12th Street. Traffic in the affected area will be reduced to one lane, so motorists are advised to factor that into their commutes or take an alternate route.
Sunny, with a high of 61 and low of 35 degrees. Sunny during the morning, clear overnight.
Yea! Ericka, thanks for the great news and keeping the community informed of what's happening locally.
Ericka, thanks for sharing. I haven't seen any notice or coverage about this project by the Bureau of Land Management except for your "On the MoVe" posts. Thanks for helping to keep the community informed. Recommend that readers review and submit comments. From my listening to the meeting, I get the sense that
I am strongly opposed to any expansion of parking at the Mustang Loop parking lot. I support repaving with a permeable material. In my opinion, moving the pollinator garden is a waste of county resources. It adds a valued bit of nature to an otherwise sterile parking area and pavilion.
Erika, thanks for the update.
You're welcome!
