Motorists along the Mount Vernon Memorial Highway between Grist Mill Woods Way and Southwood DriveĀ are advisedĀ to pay close attention to signage and road crew flaggers as construction progresses on theĀ new shared use path for pedestrians and cyclists.
Monday through Friday (excluding holidays) between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m., lane closures in either direction are permitted to take place along the highway, according to a spokesperson fromĀ Fairfax County Department of Transportation.Ā Construction crews are currently removing trees from the northern side of the road where the 10-foot-wide, asphalt trail will be built.
The construction phase of the Mount Vernon Memorial Highway Trail projectĀ is expected to last until Spring 2023. At that time, pedestrians and cyclists willĀ have continuous access to attractions and amenitiesĀ along the nearly three-mile stretch of road betweenĀ Richmond Highway and George Washington's Mount Vernon. The project is also designed to enhance pedestrian safety along sections ofĀ the highway.Ā

Yea!Ā Ericka, thanks for the great news and keeping the community informed of what's happening locally.
Ericka,Ā thanks for sharing.Ā I haven't seen any notice or coverage about this project by the Bureau of Land Management except for your "On the MoVe" posts.Ā Thanks for helping to keep the community informed.Ā Recommend that readers review and submit comments.Ā From my listening to the meeting, I get the sense that
I am strongly opposed to any expansion of parking at the Mustang Loop parking lot. I support repaving with a permeable material. In my opinion, moving the pollinator garden is a waste of county resources. It adds a valued bit of nature to an otherwise sterile parking area and pavilion.
Erika,Ā thanks for the update.
You're welcome!
