Martha Washington Library, in cooperation with the Mount Vernon Rec Center, has set up a new StoryWalk(R) for families along a short paved trail linking the two facilities.
Using the children's picture book "Where's My Teddy?" by Jez Alborough, the library has mounted each of the pages on individual signs along the trail, which starts just to the left past the library and proceeds to the rec center parking lot and back.
According to Martha Washington Library staff, the books are targeted to children in preschool and Kindergarten. The library started the program several years ago and has typically updated the stories seasonally. Upon completing the StoryWalk, families are invited to pick up a related take-home craft at the library during its opening hours.
StoryWalk, created by Vermont resident Anne Ferguson, combines the pleasure of reading and the joys and benefits of taking a walk outdoors. The interactive trails build children’s interest in reading while encouraging healthy outdoor activity.
Sunny, with a high of 61 and low of 35 degrees. Sunny during the morning, clear overnight.
Yea! Ericka, thanks for the great news and keeping the community informed of what's happening locally.
Ericka, thanks for sharing. I haven't seen any notice or coverage about this project by the Bureau of Land Management except for your "On the MoVe" posts. Thanks for helping to keep the community informed. Recommend that readers review and submit comments. From my listening to the meeting, I get the sense that
I am strongly opposed to any expansion of parking at the Mustang Loop parking lot. I support repaving with a permeable material. In my opinion, moving the pollinator garden is a waste of county resources. It adds a valued bit of nature to an otherwise sterile parking area and pavilion.
Erika, thanks for the update.
You're welcome!
