New Amazon Fresh in Lorton to open June 23

The grocery store will feature a high-tech Just Walk Out Shopping experience, enabling customers to bypass the checkout line if desired.

The new Amazon Fresh grocery store at Lorton Marketplace will open to the public and hold grand opening festivities on Thursday, June 23, according to a statement by the company’s PR firm.

The store will feature a high-tech Just Walk Out Shopping experience, enabling customers to bypass the checkout line if desired. While anyone can shop at Amazon Fresh, using the Just Walk Out service requires an Amazon account with a linked credit or debit card. Traditional checkout with a cashier is also available.

Amazon Prime members can order groceries online and receive free, same-day pick-up or delivery service if they meet the minimum order threshold.

The new Lorton grocery store will occupy all 38,000 square feet of the former Shopper’s Food Warehouse, which closed in 2020. Across the street, construction is taking place on a new Panera Bread, which is slated to open later this summer.

The Amazon Fresh at Lorton is still hiring for a variety of positions with starting wages of $15.50 per hour.

Besides the new location at 9409 Lorton Market Street, Amazon Fresh is opening stores in Manassas on June 9 and in Arlington in coming weeks. All locations will be open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
