Members of the Mount Vernon Lee and Greater Springfield Chambers of Commerce, along with special guest, Virginia Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears, participated in a June 9 ribbon cutting at the newly renovated Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at The Fairfax at Belvoir Woods Retirement Community.

The Fairfax’s Executive Director, Joseph DeCola, thanked attendees and his frontline team for their support during the project, noting that he’d learned more in the past 18 months than in his 30-plus years at the Fort Belvoir-based retirement community for retired military officers and their spouses.

The Fairfax — part of Sunrise Senior Living’s Monogram Collection and developed for the Army Retirement Residence Foundation - Potomac — is undergoing a series of phased renovations to its Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, community common areas and team member spaces according to DeCola. To date, resident rooms in the south and east wings of the health care center have been completed, and west wing renovations are on track to wrap up in July. The following month, construction will begin on the north and final wing, which is expected to be ready in the fall.

Besides the resident rooms, The Fairfax is also renovating its living rooms, public restrooms and corridors to feature updated finishes and contemporary design elements, said DeCola. The final part of the renovation process involves upgrades to team member offices and spaces, including the Nurses’ Station, which will be finished this summer.

The Mount Vernon Lee Chamber welcomes this renovation and the upgraded services it brings to our area,” said Holly Dougherty, president of the Mount Vernon Lee Chamber of Commerce. “The care Belvoir Woods Health Care Center provides meets the highest standards in the profession, and we are proud to have them in the community."
