United Community Announces New Board Chair
United Community is thrilled to introduce Garrett McGuire as the newly appointed Board Chair for 2024. United Community is a nonprofit offering an array of human services that lifts families in Fairfax County out of poverty.
A resident of Alexandria, Garrett has been an integral part of the United Community Board since 2019. Holding the position of Regional Director of External and Legislative Affairs at AT&T, he brings a wealth of experience to the role. Additionally, Garrett recently served as the Past Chair of the Fairfax–Falls Church Community Service Board and holds positions on the boards of the Arlington County Chamber of Commerce, D.C. Chamber of Commerce, and the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, where he leads the Government Relations Committee. His involvement also extends to being an appointed member of the Fairfax 250 Commission. Garrett's contributions have not gone unnoticed, as he was honored as a 40 under 40 awardee in Alexandria for 2020 and recognized by Leadership Arlington in 2016.
In other exciting news, United Community is pleased to announce a dynamic slate of board officers. Joining Garrett McGuire are Vice Chair Lauren Thompson, President at Principal Innovation; Treasurer Joe Mondoro, Budget Director for Prince William County Public Schools; and Secretary Craig Oldham, Managing Partner & CMO Advisors at Mahdlo Executive Advisors.
Furthermore, United Community is delighted to welcome four new board members to its team. Lee Buoy, II, Co-Lead of the Black Inclusion Group and a Senior Customer Success Manager at LinkedIn; Cynthia Brown, Vice President of Operation & Finance at AARP; Evelyn Gallego, Chief Executive Officer at EMI Advisors; and Iffy Akwule-Udochi, Senior Investment Consultant at Wilshire, bring diverse expertise and perspectives.
Currently under interim executive leadership, United Community is actively engaged in the search for its next President & CEO, with an announcement expected by late spring. The organization looks forward to continued growth and positive impact under its new leadership team.
