A new family-owned restaurant with table service and a combination of Latin and American cuisines has opened in Woodlawn.
Grandma’s Famous Café, located in the former El Pollo Royal space at Cooper Center, features breakfast served all day; daily specials; pupusas, tacos and quesadillas; sandwiches and subs; wraps; soups and freshly made salads; sides and drinks.
Owner Juan “J.C.” Dinarte said his family chose to offer both Hispanic and American foods since their kids are from both cultures. Dinarte previously managed restaurants in other states, and he has family members who also run eateries in the Richmond Highway area.
The Woodlawn location was appealing to Dinarte since he hopes to attract commuters traveling to and from nearby Fort Belvoir. The restaurant offers a 10% discount to military and first responders, as well as takeout and catering.
Grandma’s Famous Café is located at 8723 Cooper Road, #B. It’s open Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Moderate rain, with a high of 47 and low of 37 degrees. Overcast in the morning, patchy light drizzle in the afternoon, fog during the evening, clear overnight.
