Sacramento Center lands new restaurant tenant

The vacant pad building at Sacramento Center is now officially off the market.

A long vacant building near the corner of Sacramento Drive and Richmond Highway will soon be home to a rapidly growing restaurant chain.

Chipotle Mexican Grill recently signed a lease with Sacramento Center broker Renaud Consulting for the nearly 3,200 square-foot pad building located at the front of the shopping center, according to a Renaud news brief. The commercial real estate firm had been actively marketing the space, including via a virtual tour on the shopping center’s website.

Kamron Izadi, a member of Renaud’s broker team, told On the MoVe that Sacramento Center’s new tenant anticipates opening by December 2024, as long as there are no issues with the permitting process.

A spokesperson for Chipotle confirmed Jan. 25 that the restaurant tentatively is scheduled to open next winter and will feature the brand's signature Chipotlane — a drive-thru pick-up lane for customers picking up digital orders.

This will be Chipotle's second location along the Richmond Highway Corridor — the first one being at Beacon Center in Groveton. There also is a Chipotle at Lorton Marketplace in Lorton, in Kingstowne and at several locations in the City of Alexandria. The restaurant markets itself as serving “responsibly sourced, classically cooked, real food with wholesome ingredients without artificial colors, flavors or preservatives.”

Chipotle, which as of Sept. 30, 2023 had over 3,300 restaurants worldwide, continues to be in expansion mode. According to the company’s third quarter 2023 financial results, management was tentatively anticipating between 285 and 315 new restaurant openings in 2024, with the ultimate long-term goal of operating 7,000 restaurants.

The future Chipotle at Sacramento Center will be located at 8790 Sacramento Drive.
